Visitation Restriction—Sept 24, 2009
Area Hospitals to Begin Restricting Visitation
Precautionary Measure Implemented to
Limit Spread of Respiratory Illnesses,
Including H1N1
Prompted by the presence of the H1N1 virus and an increase in flu-like
illnesses throughout the Tristate, many Greater Cincinnati hospitals are
beginning visitor restrictions effective September 21.
Adams County Regional Medical Center has chosen to follow these restrictions
as well beginning September 23. The limited visitation policies serve as a
precautionary measure, designed to minimize the spread of respiratory illnesses
that may include the H1N1 virus to hospital patients and health care workers.
The following restrictions shall be initiated:
• No visitation by anyone who is ill with any respiratory symptoms including coughing or fever, etc.
• No visitation by anyone under age 14
ACRMC has been working to protect patients as much as possible from being
exposed to respiratory illnesses including H1N1. ACRMC will provide both
seasonal and H1N1 flu vaccines (when it becomes available) to hospital staff.
In addition, ACRMC has put “respiratory etiquette” practices in
place including making alcohol hand gel, tissues and face-masks available
to patients and visitors in the emergency department and waiting rooms.
To keep from spreading respiratory illnesses including H1N1 to others, the
Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends careful hand-washing, coughing
and sneezing into a sleeve or a tissue, and staying home from work or school
at least 24 hours after fever free.
